Cardboard City by *minevi
The soft coloring of this piece is well done. I really like how the young girl stands out despite the numerous buildings in the background. (

am only writing this critique in response to what you said about your work needing work. You don't need to work on backgrounds, that is very well done with the lack of color adding a misty sense of atmospheric distortion, and yet maintaining a high level of detail through the drawing it self. The perspective however is, as you commented, of slight concern. But only for the sake of consistency throughout the picture. Can people be drawn very effectively with this level of distortion? Yes. Wide angle lens cameras do this with images all the time... the only reason it seems slightly off is that you do not have the same level of distortion for the rest of the image. To illustrate my point, look at the poll she is holding. It is thinner in the bottom than in the top, which shows that you did some manipulation, but it doesn't get thin enough quickly enough to match the girls. If you look at the poll next to her tiny feet, it looks as if the poll is as thick as her foot, but up higher, you can see that it isn't. That is the only concern really. The girl looks like she is being viewed through a wide angle lens while the city looks like it is being viewed through a normal lens. The girl is seen from a consistent perspective, and the city is seen through a consistent perspective, but the two perspectives are slightly different. Otherwise, the image is wonderful. I commend you for a job well done in spite of the one hiccup. I honestly only noticed this because of your comment about perspectives, and thought I might share my thoughts in hope that it might help you to feel more satisfied with your next image.
Well ....At first I must say that I rarely see some impressive artwork like this xD It brings me some kinda blue, solitary feelings. Probably the most thing I like is the street background, and the thin linart. With the view up to down, I can see there are two arrays: one is the sky and another is the city. You did a good job on mixing cold colors together. And the soft light blue sky, the static river ,with all the highlights that u put into the roofs and terraces, do make the whole picture become poetic. But, I especially like all the details of the buildings. How good vision they are. You drew carefully every single window and roof brick, their details contrast obviously with the simple sky. But Im not saying they are seperated. Infact, its a good way to make impressive point. Second, I 'd like to switch to the bigger details of the drawing: your beautiful OC and the power pole. I like how the pole stick straight on to the sky, and the way the girl slightly cling it . Her empty expression kinda suits the atmosphere . You almost used only cold colors, but her hair: the only warm color make her emerged highly from all the background. (Btw I like your OC hairstyle xD.) About the technique of coloring, I will say it shortly: not rlly meticulous, but that doesnt mean your artwork are not worth. Because with me, the most important thing in a picture is not about the skill, its about how impact and impressive that it bring to the viewers. So, I guess those're all I can say. I will definitely remember this piece. Please keep up the good work ♥
could it be that you named this "Cardboard City" because of the girl's feelings? Maybe because she's so high up she feels like she conquers the world, and that the city isn't any more stronger than cardboard? D i'm really curious, because I try to name my artworks in such ways ^^ Very nice, i envy the way you color!!
